Encrypted on your phone
Every photo, video and document is encrypted with AES-256 before it's saved. So are file names and thumbnails.

Choose how to unlock it. Your PIN always stays as a backup, and after several wrong attempts the app makes you wait longer each time.
Recovery phrase
Twelve words only you know. If you forget your PIN, they get you back in.
A backup you control
One encrypted file you keep wherever you like. Use it to switch phones, even from iPhone to Android and back.

How it protects your files
A key that lives only on your phone
Creating the vault generates a random key. It's stored, protected by your PIN, in the system's secure keystore (Keychain on iPhone, Keystore on Android) and never leaves the phone.
Everything is encrypted before it's saved
Files are encrypted in chunks with AES-256-GCM, which also detects any tampering. What sits in storage is unreadable without your key.
Open only while you use it
The key is in memory only while the vault is open. Leaving the app locks it, and any file you opened to view is deleted.
Nobody else has a copy
Reefstacks runs no servers for Pearlnest and never receives your files or keys. That also means we can't open your vault for you: keep your recovery phrase safe.
Frequently asked questions
Can Reefstacks see my files?
No. Your files are encrypted on your phone and never reach us. There are no accounts or servers for the app.
What if I forget my PIN?
Use your 12-word recovery phrase to get in and set a new PIN. Without the PIN and the phrase, nobody can open the vault, not even us.
What if I lose or change my phone?
Create a backup in Settings and keep it wherever you like (Google Drive, iCloud or your computer). On the new phone, choose “Restore from a backup” and type your recovery phrase.
Does it need the internet?
No. Pearlnest works completely offline.
Does it delete the originals from my gallery?
On iPhone, after importing, the app offers to delete them from Photos and iOS asks you to confirm. On Android the system photo picker doesn't allow it, so you delete them yourself from your gallery.
Which permissions does it ask for?
Only what it needs: the system photo picker to choose what to save, and Face ID or fingerprint if you decide to use them. It never asks for the camera, microphone, location or contacts.
