Vela Privacy Policy

Who we are

Vela is an app by Reefstacks, based in San Andrés, Islas, Colombia. Reefstacks is the data controller responsible for your data. For any privacy questions, write to us at hola@reefstacks.app.

What data we use

Anonymous account: the first time you open Vela, we create an account with a random identifier. The access code is stored in your phone's secure storage. We don't ask for your email, phone number or a password.

Name: if you choose to enter one, we use it so the stories can call you by name. It can be a nickname.

Your wishes and what's created from them: the text of each wish, its position in your sky, the written stories, their audio narrations, your daily affirmations, and the stories you mark as favorites.

Language and date: the app's language, so we can write in it, and your phone's date, for each day's affirmation.

Subscription: if you subscribe, the app store tells us whether your subscription is active and until when. We never receive your payment details.

We recommend that you don't include sensitive information in your wishes, such as health information, or information about other people.

How we use it

To make the app work: showing your sky, writing and narrating your stories, generating your daily affirmation, and applying your plan's limits.

To provide support when you contact us and to protect the service from abuse.

We don't use your wishes for advertising or profiling, and we don't sell them.

Who we share it with

Only with providers that help us deliver the service and that process data on our behalf:

Cloudflare: hosts our servers, database and audio files.

Anthropic (Claude): receives the text of your wish, your name if you provided one, and your language, in order to write the story and the affirmation. Under its commercial terms, it does not use this data to train its models.

ElevenLabs: receives the text of the story to turn it into speech.

Apple App Store and Google Play: process subscription payments under their own policies. RevenueCat helps us know whether a subscription is active.

These providers may process data outside Colombia, including in the United States.

Microphone and dictation

Vela asks for microphone access only when you tap the button to dictate your wish. Speech recognition is handled by your phone's built-in service (Google on Android, Apple on iPhone), which may process the audio under its own policy. Vela receives only the resulting text and never records or stores your voice.

How long we keep it

For as long as you use Vela. When you delete a wish, its stories and narrations are deleted immediately. If you ask us to delete all of your data, we'll erase it within 30 days at most.

Technical backups held by our providers may take a few extra days to clear.

Your rights

You can access, update, correct and request deletion of your data, and revoke your consent, under Colombia's Law 1581 of 2012 and any other laws that apply to you.

To do so, write to us at hola@reefstacks.app from the app, or tell us the names of your wishes so we can find your anonymous account. We respond within 15 business days at most.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact Colombia's Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC).

Security

All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted. Each account can only see its own wishes and stories, and audio files are only delivered to the person who created them.

Children

Vela is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. If the change is significant, we'll also let you know in the app.
